Tree Rings in Archeology, Climatology and Ecology (TRACE) 2012
TRACE 2012 meeting from May 9th to 12th 2012
The TRACE 2012 meeting will be jointly organised by the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin and the Institute of Forest Ecology and Forest Inventory in Eberswalde.
The annual TRACE is the scientific meeting of the Association for tree-ring research. Registration will be on Wednesday with an ice-breaker in the evening; sessions continue in Potsdam on Thursday and Friday.
Kohlenstoffspeicherung in Waldökosystemen
Im Rahmen der BZE II wird der Beitrag von Waldökosystemen auf die Kohlenstoffspeicherung untersucht. Die durchgeführte Auswertung der bereits vorhandenen Daten der BZE I und BZE II deutet darauf hin, dass besonders sandige Böden mit geringen Kohlenstoffgehalten, die nur geringe Mengen Kohlenstoff speichern, als Senke fungieren. Warum dies so ist, soll das aktuell laufende Projekt "Harmonisierte Erhebung zur Kohlenstoffhochrechnung an ausgewählten BZE-Standorten" klären.
The Third National Forest Inventory was launched in 2011
About one third of all the land in Germany is covered with forests. What is the age structure and species composition of the forests in Germany? How much raw wood can they sustainably provide? How much carbon is stored in the trees and dead wood? The German National Forest Inventory (NFI) provides comprehensive information on the large scale forest conditions and their development.
Since spring 2011, up to 60 inventory groups have been underway. The survey will continue to the end of 2012, in 2013 the data will be checked and completed. The evaluation and analysis of the results is planned for 2014.
