Research Vessel “Clupea”

Area of Use:

The "Clupea" mainly works in the areas of coastal fishing in the southwestern Baltic Sea. Pelagic and bottom trawl nets, set nets and long lines, biological sample trawl and plankton nets as well as oceanographic sensors are used.

On September 15th 2011, Federal Minister Ilse Aigner launched the new fisheries research vessel “Clupea”. After some necessary optimisations it went into service in April 2012. The new vessel replaces the previous, 60 years old “Clupea”. The new ship has a length of nearly 29 meters, but a draft of 2,30 meters only. This is ideal for operating in the flat coastal areas of the so called Bodden.  The “Clupea” will not only cruise in the Baltic Sea, but also in the North Sea.
